Must see!

Abdij de Koningshoeven

La Trappe, the well-known Trappist beer, is brewed in partnership with the monks of the O.L.V. de Koningshoeven Abbey. In the whole world there are only seven Trappist beers, six from Belgium, and only La Trappe from the Netherlands. The brewery is situated in the Brabant town of Berkel-Enschot, which can be reached by various cycle routes and walks. At VVV Tilburg cycle maps are available for €1, and show the various cycle routes to the Abbey. The Abbey has a pub, where you can enjoy an Abbey lunch or sample beer.  Part of the abbey is still inhabited by monks, the rest is open to tours by visitors. For more information and details of opening hours, visit their website.

Fact: 'When is beer a real Trappist beer?'

  • The beer must be brewed within the walls of an original Trappist abbey
  • The brewing must be supervised by monks
  • Part of the proceeds must be donated to charity
